Subject: Closing Report: Canada Revenue Agency's Audit of Tax Filings of the Islamic Society of BC
You will recall that in late September and early October 2017, some national and local media outlets were reporting on issues relating to Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) audit of the Islamic Society of British Columbia (ISBC).
A national news agency had procured confidential CRA correspondence between CRA and ISBC (but not the ISBC’s responses to CRA) and tried to cause maximum impact through inflammatory reporting. ISBC was advised at that time by its legal counsel not to make any public statements as it would have compromised the viability and outcomes of our ongoing work on specific deliverables to the CRA.
Pursuant to our compliance agreement with Canada Revenue Agency, the Islamic Society of British Columbia has implemented comprehensive measures to assure organizational wellbeing for the foreseeable future. We have reengineered the functions of the organization and formalized methods and practices; processes and procedures; records and databases; checks and balances to assure best in class outcome for end-to-end operations.
We are pleased to report that as a result of the foregoing, ISBC has concluded the implementation of the corrective measures required by the Canada Revenue Agency, and secured their unequivocal approval.
